Radiographs in Dentistry

Dental x-rays give fast, detailed, accurate information that one cannot see with the naked eye or even magnification. Time and time again they have proven their worth by preventing disease progression of early conditions before more dramatic measures need to be taken. But some people are concerned about the radiation of traditional film x-rays.

Did you know that todays’ x-rays are digitally processed and carry very little radiation whatsoever? Take a look at this comparison chart, derived from the “banana equivalent radiation chart”. There is just no substitute for the wealth of knowledge and information that a single x-ray can provide, and now you can rest easy knowing that we have the latest technology to drastically reduce traditional dosages.

Average background radiation – 2200μSv

Sydney to Cairns return flight – 100μSv

Dental OPG – 11μSv

Bitewing x-ray – 3μSv

Eating a banana – 0.1μSv
